One of my favorite themes to look out for at weddings is something I call Found Details. Details are often things like flowers, the dress, rings, shoes, place settings, and any personalized decor. I will take photos of these things, but I won’t stylize them. My favorite method of photographing them is as they lay, preferably with a human element present. Some of my favorites include something picking up a photo from a table full of Polaroids taken by guests, or a photo of the dress being put onto the bride. Essentially i like detail shots that tell a story of the wedding with people present.
At Ashli and Garrett’s wedding at the Stock Farm Club in August, it was really hot. The ceremony was held under a tent because it was so hot. We also had the unfortunate circumstance of Washington wildfires clogging up the Bitterroot Valley with smoke. At 5pm during cocktail hour around the pool it was blazing hot and some of the guests made the smart decision to cool off in the pool as much as was allowed without getting their wedding attire wet. In doing so they left their shoes piled up on the shores of the pool and I thought this would make a great storytelling photo.
