Hanging Bison in Truck

Tribes set their own rules, but for the Umatilla each tribal member is allowed to kill up to two bison on the Gardiner hunt. These young men are tying the quarters to wooden racks built in the back of a truck. The quarters will hang to air out and cool until they arrive back home in Oregon, where the meat will be shared with extended family.

Location: Beattie Gulch, Gardiner, Montana 59030.
