Photographing a wedding at Chico Hot Springs Resort is one of my favorite summer activities in Montana. The backgrounds in any direction are pristine and either mountainous or expansive. Chico Hot Springs rests on the eastern edge of Paradise Valley between Gardiner and Livingston.
As you can see in this photograph, Leane and Adam's small ceremony was held next to the gazebo but still with the traditional mountain backdrop. Only the immediate families were in attendance at the wedding so this made it easy for me to keep an eye on them for emotion. They didn't disappoint, as this photo shows. Leane's mother lost it early and didn't want to be a distraction to the ceremony so she stepped back down the aisle to blow her nose. I stayed with her because I thought a strong composition was there and I was rewarded with this great photo showing the ceremony in progress, the majestic background, and mom being emotional.
Small ceremonies are some of my favorites for this exact reason: the experience is tighter and the level of intimacy greater. Guests know they are very important and they let loose a bit more with how they are feeling because they know everybody who will see them.
