When planning an engagement session or elopement in Glacier National Park, one needs to be very flexible during August or September due to the potential for forest fires. This couple, Christine and Kevin, had hoped for the traditional Glacier portraits up the Going to the Sun Road on the west side of the park, including at Logan Pass. But due to a fire on the west side of Lake McDonald, which shut down the road through the park and filled that same valley with smoke, we had to change plans. I had shot on the west side of the park before, but the flexibility over there is so much less as we can only walk along a short area of the western shore of the lake. But I was confident in my ability to get at least one good shot with those booming mountains as a backdrop. I think this is the one, with a kiss of light on Christine's face, a silhouette of Kevin, and those leading lines of the descending mountains on each side of Bowman Lake.
