Montana Wedding Photographers | Justine + Derk

Montana Wedding Photographers David Clumpner and Tori Pintar in Corvallis, Montana

Justine and Derk are some of my favorite people in Montana.  They puppy sat my little Springer (Max) during a wedding two weeks ago!  Justine loves all kinds of animals – she seems to get new ones monthly – and Derk loves hunting, which is an important building block to my soul.  So we can talk for hours – and we do!

If you are from Missoula you will recognize Justine Judge (now Stewart) as a morning anchor on KPAX News.  Derk isn’t famous enough to have a webpage linked to his name, but he killed a 340″ bull elk last year in the Sapphires, so he probably should have an article in the newspaper or something.  Their wedding was on Derk’s parent’s ranch in Corvallis in the Bitterroot Valley.  The ceremony was designed and set up with the help of the coordinator, Autumn Kozimer of Events by Autumn.  The site itself had a backdrop of the Bitterroot Mountains towering over the valley below, but… there were about 150 fires burning between Washington and Montana, so the smoke was so thick as to ruin the view of the mountains.  We didn’t get them during the day, but I was able to create something pretty unique in the evening showcasing both the mountains and the heavy smoke (first photo below).

Here’s the proposal story, as told by Justine:

“I sort of knew Derk was going to propose soon. My dad fessed up that Derk has asked for his permission to ask me to marry him. But anyway… Derk said he was getting me something “shiny” for Christmas. What he got me was a brand new shiny bright horse trailer! Not what I was expecting… but awesome nonetheless. Then in early February he came home… he wandered up to the house. I had been out feeding horses and goats so I was in my typical sweat pants, muck boots, dirty jacket and messy hair. He asked me if I had seen what he had the local dealership do to the tack room in my trailer. I just said no and didn’t think much of it. He walked with me down to the horse trailer and when I opened up the door there was my ring and a bunch of flowers. It was very sweet.”

Utilizing the smoke, I was able to get some really rich color and layering.

I love the mirroring here between the shape of the dress and the horse’s blaze.

David! Oh my gosh I just read this write-up about our wedding. You’ve got me crying at work! I am so happy I was able to have you as our photographer. Your photos for our engagement shoot blew me away and the wedding photos were stunning. I find myself still browsing through them… fairly often actually… and the best part is that I feel each time I see something new. I find a new detail or emotion in each photo that simply amazes me. I think I have a favorite and then decide no… this one’s my favorite. Wait, no…. THIS ONE. No, now it’s this one. I’m sure nobody will want to be around me when it comes time to picking photos out to print and frame after we renovate our house this spring 🙂 Maybe I should just have you pick them out! I loved our wedding and how it turned out so much. The only thing better is having these photos that captured it all. I have them forever. Each one makes me so happy. Thank you for being so talented and taking these photos of our special day.
