Jaylene + Marshall’s Corvallis, Montana Wedding

This might have been the most casual wedding I have ever photographed! As Jaylene told me, it was going to be a low key affair with everybody pitching in to make it come together. This, of course, would be a great day for a documentary photographer! We had a very small morning ceremony then all those in attendance came together to prep for a much larger reception later in the afternoon. Family-style food service, which is quickly becoming my favorite at weddings, preceded a sunset portrait session on Jaylene’s family property overlooking the Bitterroot Valley and the mountains to the West. We even got to play in an orchard!

Reading how a couple met on a questionnaire (amongst many other questions) is a good way for me to learn about the couple prior to their big day. Jaylene and Marshall’s engagement is good enough to share here, though. A fax machine and a t-shirt on a first date! I think I was so shocked at both of those things that I brought them up during the portrait session!

“Marshall and I met through a fax machine! Turns out I was working with a friend of his and she encouraged him to ask me out on a date. He listened! He asked via email and I said yes. In fact, I still have the email. A few weeks later, on April Fools Day,  we went to a local brewery for pizza and beer and it was no joke. I got there first and when Marshall walked in I thought two things: he was very, very cute and he was wearing awful jeans! The best part was he was wearing a Nike shirt that said “THE ONE AND ONLY”. Who knew that’d be spot on! Ha! Fast forward to roughly four and half years (what his step dad calls glacial speed) and many adventures later, here we are! And every year, I’m always finding ways to prank Marshall on April Fools Day because its our “date day”.”
