Glacier National Park Engagement Photographer, David Clumpner
So many of my clients come from outside Montana that it is a little difficult to do traditional engagement sessions (i.e. getting a Save the Date photo) for them, but sometimes clients just want photos of themselves in a pretty place (which is all of Montana) not in their wedding clothes. I think this is a stellar idea and I advocate for it as much as I can. It’s fun, it’s relaxing, and we get photos in more normal clothes. AND, if the circumstances are right, we can go to places like Glacier National Park or Big Sky to do the photos. Really we can go wherever we want, which is not the case on wedding day.
Shelby and Ben got married at Holland Lake about five days after we did this engagement session, so it was a great chance to meet and get comfortable with each other. Plus no trip to Glacier is a bad trip. We started low around McDonald Lake and worked our way up, diversifying our variety of images as we climbed elevation into the alpine. We did not have hail/rain like on my previous Glacier shoot, but solid blue sky and sun the whole time. Braving Glacier in the summer, even on a weekday, can be a dangerous proposition (due to crowds), but we went late in the day and had no problems as we went up while everybody else was coming down. That’s the beauty of chasing Golden Hour!
Glacier National Park does a lot of the work for you as a photographer, but not all of it. We had to chase the light and in the case of the last photo, make it ourselves. But I think these photos are some of my best and I hope you will also like them. Please, more couples hire me to go to Glacier with you!
