Sometimes photos like this are posed, but that's not what you ever get with a documentary wedding photographer! This moment, just after Heidi got her veil put in but just before leaving for her ceremony, she stopped to look out the window and take stock of the incredible emotions she'd already been through to that point. A shaft of sunlight caught the hair and I noticed how well it stood out so I photographed it against the backdrop of her personal wedding scene.
Photographing a wedding at Big Sky Resort is like the best of all worlds in Montana. The couple gets a normal resort experience, but when you walk outdoors it's set against the backdrop of Lone Mountain and the Spanish Peaks, which are stunning during any season. At Heidi and Dylan's wedding, we were able to take the lift up to Everett's 8800, a restaurant further up the hill, where they held their ceremony. That means all the guests had to travel via lift up the mountain as well. But what an amazing backdrop both for the ceremony and for the creative portraits afterwards. It's rare that a couple gets portraits up on the mountain like that, but we made the best of already being up there!
